Part 2- Week 1

In comm. 350, we were assigned to create a full website on a self-selected topic. However, I am still unsure of what I would like to make a site about as the topic requires significant information to be readily available in order to fulfill 5 webpages. Before I get too ahead of myself, I will begin by listing the top ten rules of website design.
1. Don't use too much Media ( FLASH, etc.) as it detracts from your overall message

3. You should embrace proven technologies such as Youtube, Wikipedia, and Facebook

4. Color Choice is Critical- visiting sights where the colors are too bright to read, or too dark to see is reason enough for leaving the site. It is important to pick a color scheme that is easy to read and doesn't hurt the readers eyes while deciphering it. 10 rules of website design

5. Navigation should be intuitive: Your viewer shouldn't have to work hard at navigating the website

6. Consistency is Key: It is important that viewers gain a sense of recognition and belonging when visiting your site. This cannot happen if the site is different every single time the viewer visits it.

7.  Content is Vital: Design can be what brings the viewer in initially, but the content needs to be reliable, accurate, interesting, and able to accommodate the needs of the viewers. 10 rules of website design

8. Check the site for Errors: There is nothing worse than opening a website and clicking on a link, and it doesn't work. Make sure this doesn't happen to your website. 10 rules of website design

9. Guide your visitors: This is your opportunity to show your readers what you have to offer, take advantage of this as a form of one on one communication. Tell them what you think they need to know

10. Consider Legal Issues: Be conscious of plagiarism, copyrights, and patents. Ensure that you are citing all of your sources and giving credit to those who created the information you are using through fair use. Top 10 rules of website design
